How to Make Clip On Hair Extensions
Hair extensions are an alternative way of changing one’s hairstyle. However, attaching the hair with glues or thread makes the style semi-permanent and potentially damaging to one’s natural hair. Clip in hair extensions provide the solution to those women who like hair extensions but do not want them permanently attached. With a little patience and time, anyone can learn to make clip in hair extensions.
Purchase hair extensions. If you purchase these from a dealer, you can have it cut to the length you desire. If you purchase it from a store, they are available in packs. Make your selection based on color, length and texture.
Purchase attachment comb clips. These will hold the extensions in place on your head.
Take a measurement. Use a comb to part the hair close to the nape of your neck, from one side of your head to the other. Hold the hair extension from one end of this line to the other to measure. Cut double this length from the hair extension.
Prepare the extension you just cut out. Apply small spots of glue along the sewn edge of the weft. Bring both ends of the weft together to fold the hair extension in two. Press both sides of the weft together and set it aside so the glue can dry.

Part another line of your hair above the first line. Hold the long extension to this line to find out how much you need. Cut double this length from the long hair extension. Repeat the process in step four.
Continue making successive lines, going up, to find the various lengths you will need for each hair piece. Remember that you will need your natural hair to hide these attachments so stop at a point close to the front of your head. You should leave enough hair to comfortably hide the hair extension closest to your forehead.
Sew an attachment comb clip to each end of the weft. For extra security, you may wish to sew an additional clip at the center of the weft. Repeat this process for each hair piece.

Tip:
Hair extensions are available as synthetic hair or human hair. Human hair extensions are more natural looking and they last longer. They can be washed and styled like your normal hair.
You can buy hair extensions in any color and in different lengths. They are also available in wavy, curly or straight textures.
Attachment clips are commonly sold in packs of three but they are also available in large packs. The clips are less expensive when purchased in large packs.
