How to Open a Torrent
It took a while, but you finally found the file you have been searching for. The only thing is, it is a Torrent file. How to open it? That’s the question most people ask when they first come across torrent files. Although it is considered the fastest way of downloading files, the BitTorrent system is not very intuitive. Once you find out what to do, and install the appropriate software, downloading and opening torrents will be a snap.
Download a BitTorrent client. Torrent clients manage the process of downloading and uploading files and they are necessary for torrents. Most of the available torrent clients are free. It is normal to be wary of free software but most of these free clients are also free of malware. Popular torrent applications include BitTorrent, uTorrent and Limewire (see Resources below). Save the executable in an easily accessible location.
Locate your executable file. Double click on it to begin the installation. Wait for the process to come to an end.
Locate your torrent on your computer and double click to open it. This action launches the torrent client. A dialog box will appear offering to save current and future downloaded files to a default location. You may change the default location or click ‘ok’ to continue. The client will begin to download the files associated with your torrent.
Wait for the client to finish downloading the files. Although the size of the file is a factor, the duration of the download will depend largely on the number of seeds available from which the files can be downloaded.
Go to the default location you selected to find your file when the download is complete.

Tip:
If you are an active member of a torrent site that uses trackers, the speed at which your files are downloaded will improve with time. At such torrent sites, fast downloads are the reward for those who regularly seed their files.
Warning:
Your membership at tracker torrent sites will be revoked if you don't seed your files regularly.
