How to Become a Real Estate Agent in Florida
If you are a licensed real estate agent in a state that participates in the Mutual Recognition Agreement, the process of obtaining a license in Florida will be much simplified. This agreement qualifies out-of-state Brokers and Sales Associates for equivalent licenses in Florida. Florida participates in this agreement with Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Those who are successful in becoming realtors in Florida will find a wealth of useful resources that will help advance their professional careers.
Satisfy the general requirements. You must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or a GRE to apply for a real estate license.
Take a pre-licensing course. The Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC) has approved a course of study that requires 63 classroom hours. The course is valid for two years and you can apply for a license within this time.
Submit an application for a real estate license prior to registering for a licensing class. You will also need to submit electronic fingerprints and the application fee.
Take note of the Mutual Recognition Agreement. Under this agreement Florida waives a portion of the licensing examination for real estate agents or brokers who are licensed in other states. These candidates will only need to pass the legal section of the exam.
Sit for the licensing examination. You will need a grade of 75 or higher to pass the Real Estate Sales Associate exam and a grade of 30 or higher to pass Real Estate Law Exam.
Submit a RE-2050-1 form to activate your license. You can submit this form at the examination site or you can send it to the Division of Real Estate. You will receive your license faster if you submit the form at the examination center.
Stay up to date by taking a post-licensing course. This course, required by the Florida Real Estate Commission, consists of 45 classroom-hours. You must take it before your license expires.

Tip:
You may qualify to take the pre-licensing course at home if you have a permanent disability that will prevent you from taking it in a classroom setting.
Warning:
Real estate sales associate licensed in other states cannot use their license to apply for a real estate broker’s license in Florida. You must pass Florida’s sales associate exam before applying to take the broker’s exam.
